Former Deputy President and DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has criticised the government over the killing of livestock during security operations in Samburu County.
Speaking in Dallas, Texas, Gachagua accused President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of targeting and undermining the Maa community, describing the alleged actions as unjust and oppressive.
His remarks come after Murkomen confirmed earlier this month that livestock had been killed during a recent security operation in Samburu.
Murkomen said the government had intensified operations in Samburu and Isiolo to recover illegal firearms and stolen livestock, dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace.
The CS said he had directed security agencies to exercise maximum caution during operations to minimise collateral damage.
He added that the government would continue its crackdown on banditry, saying more than 3,000 illegal firearms and 8,000 rounds of ammunition had been recovered in parts of the Kerio Valley and Northern Kenya.
Murkomen also said security agencies had stepped up the fight against drug and substance abuse by strengthening enforcement and disrupting supply networks.
