Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has thrown his support behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following the launch of The Equitable Party, urging his supporters to join the new political outfit and back its candidates in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement on X, Gachagua referred to Sifuna as his cousin and congratulated him on what he described as the beginning of his journey towards national leadership.

The DCP leader challenged Sifuna to move with speed to popularise TEP and identify strong candidates in his political strongholds to challenge leaders he accused of being allies and surrogates of President William Ruto.

Gachagua said the launch of TEP had helped give greater definition to the opposition’s efforts to form what he termed the sixth administration.

He said a majority in both Houses of Parliament would be necessary to advance the opposition’s legislative agenda, while accusing the Ruto administration of presiding over the country’s decline.

Gachagua also appealed to those supporting Sifuna’s presidential bid to join TEP and support its candidates for various elective positions.

He described strong political parties as essential to the growth of democracy, before declaring that there would be “no escape route” for the current administration.

Gachagua signed off his message by describing the 2027 contest as “WANTAM and Round One”, adding that “things are boiling very nicely.”
