Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says he has held talks with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and party leaders on efforts to unite the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement following the meeting at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua said the discussions focused on what he termed the liberation of the country and the formation of the next administration.
Gachagua said the leaders had agreed to make the necessary sacrifices to settle on a single presidential candidate to lead their political movement.
“We are all in agreement that we shall make whatever sacrifices necessary to settle on one presidential candidate to be the captain of our struggle,” he said.
He added that consultations would continue as the leaders seek common ground on their political strategy ahead of the election.
The meeting signals continued engagement between Gachagua and Kalonzo as opposition leaders navigate efforts to build a united front against President William Ruto’s administration.
However, Gachagua did not announce an agreed presidential candidate or provide a timeline for concluding the consultations.
The 2027 General Election is expected to be a key test for opposition parties seeking to coordinate their campaigns and agree on a common candidate.
