The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a life imprisonment sentence against a man convicted of defiling his six-year-old daughter in Garissa County.
The accused was convicted and sentenced by Garissa Law Courts Resident Magistrate R. Lemayan following a trial in which the prosecution presented evidence from the child and four other witnesses.
The court heard that the offence occurred on January 22, 2026, at around 11pm in the Bulla Ijara area of Garissa Township.
In its judgment, the court relied on the child’s testimony, which identified the accused as her father, alongside evidence from the other prosecution witnesses. Medical evidence, including a P3 form and treatment notes, was also presented to support the case.
The court noted that the complainant was below 11 years of age, a factor considered in sentencing under Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act.
In its remarks, the court highlighted the accused’s responsibility to protect the child, given their parent-child relationship.
The man was sentenced to life imprisonment and has 14 days to appeal the decision.
The prosecution was led by P.C. Sharon Irungu.
