Harambee Stars has suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Guinea in their second Group D match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Thursday.
Serhou Guirassy scored the decisive goal in the 32nd minute as Guinea took advantage of home support at the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry.
Kenya, coached by Benni McCarthy, went into the match seeking its first victory of the qualifying campaign after being held to a 1-1 draw by Eritrea in their opening fixture at Nyayo Stadium.
Guinea had also started the campaign with a defeat, losing 2-1 to South Africa, making Thursday’s encounter important for both sides.
The Harambee Stars struggled to find an equaliser after Guirassy’s opener, with Guinea holding on to claim all three points.
Despite the defeat, Kenya had already secured its place at the 2027 AFCON finals as one of the tournament’s co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
The qualifiers are therefore also being used by McCarthy to assess his squad and prepare for the continental tournament.
The result gives Guinea its first points of the campaign, while Kenya remains with one point from its opening two matches.
