Manchester City claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night, with Erling Haaland scoring the decisive goal to secure all three points in the UEFA Champions League.
The English side survived a spirited Leipzig fightback to return to winning ways in Europe, producing a crucial away performance in a thrilling encounter that saw five goals scored.
City broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba inadvertently turned Nico O’Reilly’s dangerous cutback into his own net, handing the visitors a 1-0 half-time advantage.
However, Leipzig responded immediately after the restart, with Ridle Baku restoring parity in the 49th minute to bring the home supporters back into the contest.
City regained the lead in the 58th minute through Enzo Fernández, who powered home a header after a well-delivered cross from Ndiaye.
The hosts refused to surrender, and Antonio Nusa levelled the scores again in the 61st minute with a composed left-footed finish inside the penalty area.
With the match finely balanced, Haaland stepped up in the 78th minute to score the decisive goal, giving City a hard-fought 3-2 victory and silencing the home crowd.
The victory gives Manchester City an important boost in their Champions League campaign as they continue their pursuit of a place in the knockout stages.
For Leipzig, the defeat will be a disappointing outcome after twice fighting back to draw level but ultimately failing to contain City’s attacking threat.
