Police in Kajiado are investigating a suspected murder and attempted murder following the attack, which occurred on Monday evening, October 12, 2026, approximately 100 metres from Kajiado Police Station.

According to Kajiado Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Chief Officer David Cheruiyot, police received reports from members of the public after commotion was heard at one of the rental houses.

Police officers and DCI detectives rushed to the scene, where they found the two women lying in pools of blood with multiple stab wounds.

The victims were identified as Doreen Akinyi, 49, and Catherine Mbithe, 35.

Akinyi was found a few metres from the house entrance with multiple stab wounds to her head and right arm. Mbithe was discovered inside the suspect’s house with stab wounds to her left hip and both arms.

The two women were rushed to Kajiado County Referral Hospital in critical condition. However, Mbithe died upon arrival, while Akinyi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for specialised treatment.

The suspect, identified as Bernard Ochieng Owiti, 30, who is reportedly the landlord of the rental property, later presented himself at Kajiado Police Station carrying two bloodstained knives.

According to police, Owiti allegedly confessed to committing the attack before he was arrested and placed in custody.

The body of the deceased has been moved to the Kajiado County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination and formal identification.

Meanwhile, detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the brutal attack.

Police are expected to pursue the case as investigations continue, while the surviving victim remains under medical care.
