Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has challenged security agencies to widen investigations into the violence that disrupted the first anniversary of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Migwena Sports and Cultural Centre in Bondo Sub-County last Thursday.
Kalonzo said the arrest of five suspects was only the beginning, urging detectives to pursue individuals allegedly involved in planning and financing the chaos.
He maintained that those who orchestrated and funded the violence should also be held accountable, calling on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to move swiftly and ensure those responsible face the law.
The former Vice President also linked state operatives to the skirmishes, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disruption of the anniversary event.
“The arrest of the five suspects is just the tip of the iceberg,” Kalonzo said, calling for investigations to extend beyond those directly involved in the incident.
The Wiper leader also weighed in on the troubles facing Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing state agencies of targeting government critics.
Kalonzo cautioned the government against intimidating opposition leaders, insisting that dissenting voices would not be silenced as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
He maintained that the opposition remained determined to challenge President William Ruto at the ballot, dismissing any attempts to weaken its resolve.
Addressing the press at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) Centre on Monday, October 19, Kalonzo expressed confidence in his political prospects, saying he could defeat Ruto in the Nyanza region if selected as the opposition’s presidential candidate.
His remarks underscore the growing political contest within the opposition as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
Kalonzo also launched a scathing attack on the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of multiple governance failures.
He described the government as a “predator” administration, signalling his continued criticism of Ruto’s leadership and the direction of the country.
The Wiper leader’s remarks come amid heightened political activity as opposition figures intensify their criticism of the government and seek to consolidate support ahead of the next General Election.
Kalonzo’s call for further arrests now places renewed focus on investigations into the Migwena incident, with pressure mounting on security agencies to establish whether additional individuals were involved in planning or financing the violence.
