The Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) is set to introduce Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) contributing 15 per cent of final examination scores for students pursuing five certificate and diploma qualifications from December 2026.
Under the new assessment system, affected students will be required to sit two CATs at accredited training institutions, with the marks contributing to their overall performance alongside scores obtained in their final examinations.
The changes are expected to introduce a continuous assessment component into the affected qualifications, requiring students to demonstrate their understanding of course content throughout their studies rather than relying solely on final examinations.
The two CATs will account for a combined 15 per cent of the final score, while the remaining 85 per cent will be determined by the final examination results.
Students pursuing the affected programmes will therefore need to prepare for both continuous assessments and their final examinations to maximise their overall scores.
The requirement to undertake the CATs at accredited training institutions also places emphasis on compliance with KASNEB’s approved assessment arrangements.
The new system is scheduled to take effect in December 2026, and students enrolled in the affected qualifications are advised to seek clarification from their respective training institutions on the assessment timetable and implementation guidelines.
