Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has broken his silence after Manchester City were found guilty of serious financial-rule breaches, insisting he has no desire to claim additional Premier League titles retrospectively.

Klopp, who is now Germany head coach, was speaking ahead of his side’s UEFA Nations League meeting with Serbia when he was asked about the verdict against City.

“I don’t need to be Premier League champion a few more times. I’m completely happy with what we’ve achieved,” Klopp said.

The former Liverpool boss spent much of his Anfield tenure competing directly with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, with Liverpool finishing runners-up by a single point in the 2018/19 and 2021/22 Premier League campaigns.

Klopp acknowledged the significance of City’s achievements during that period while maintaining his respect for Guardiola and the football his team produced.

“I have huge respect for Pep Guardiola and the football City played during the time we were up against them,” he said.

“If any sanctions are imposed I’ve got nothing to do with it.”

Klopp added that he would rather wait for the legal process to run its course instead of speculating about possible sanctions or the redistribution of titles.

Manchester City were found guilty by an independent commission of serious breaches of Premier League financial regulations relating to the period between 2009/10 and 2017/18.

The club has rejected the findings and indicated that it intends to appeal.

The verdict has renewed debate over the potential consequences for City’s honours from the period under investigation.

However, Klopp made clear that he remains satisfied with what Liverpool achieved on the pitch during his time at the club.

His latest comments mark a more measured stance compared with his earlier joke that he would attend a victory parade if Liverpool were ever awarded titles retrospectively following the City case.
