Professor Makau Mutua has launched a scathing attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, questioning his record as a lawyer, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General and legislator.
In a strongly worded social media post, Mutua dismissed Sifuna’s contribution to public life, challenging his supporters to identify a single achievement of consequence throughout his career.
“SIFUNA has NEVER done a SINGLE thing of CONSEQUENCE in his entire life,” Mutua wrote, adding that the senator had achieved “Zero, zilch, nada” as a lawyer, ODM Secretary-General or senator.
The professor further accused Sifuna of relying on rhetoric rather than tangible accomplishments, describing him as a politician who had done little beyond “running his mouth.”
Mutua also questioned Sifuna’s political journey, claiming that he had lost every election before former ODM leader Raila Odinga helped him secure the Nairobi Senate seat.
“He lost every election until Baba made him Nairobi Senator,” Mutua stated.
The criticism extended to Sifuna’s perceived political alignment, with Mutua accusing the senator of seeking political refuge under former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“Now he’s hiding under Gachagua’s skirt,” Mutua added.
The professor concluded his post with a direct challenge to Sifuna’s supporters and political allies to disprove his assessment by naming a notable achievement attributable to the senator.
“I challenge anyone to name one thing. Apart from running his mouth. Prove me wrong. I challenge you,” he wrote.
The remarks add to the political debate surrounding Sifuna’s record and his position in Kenya’s evolving opposition politics.
However, Mutua’s statements represent his personal assessment of the senator’s career, and the post does not provide specific evidence to substantiate the allegations. Sifuna’s record and contributions would need to be assessed against verifiable achievements and public records.
