Former Chief Justice David Maraga and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have paid tribute to veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara following her departure from Citizen TV after eight-and-a-half years at the station.

In a message shared on Wednesday, Maraga thanked Okwara for what he described as her exceptional service to Kenya over the past 20 years.

He praised her honesty, integrity, intellectual acuity and commitment to seeking the truth, describing the qualities as rare attributes.

Maraga also wished Okwara God’s blessings in her next chapter, expressing confidence that her work would contribute to a fair and just world.

Sifuna also congratulated the journalist on her next chapter, recalling their interactions on Citizen TV’s current affairs programme, The Explainer.

The senator said he was grateful to Okwara for giving him his first television appearance more than 13 years ago.

“I won’t forget you gave me my first appearance on TV over 13 years ago. Forever grateful, God bless!” Sifuna wrote.

Okwara signed off from Citizen TV on Tuesday, October 27, bringing to an end her tenure at the Royal Media Services-owned broadcaster, where she became a familiar face in prime-time news and current affairs.

Her departure has drawn messages of appreciation from public figures and viewers reflecting on her contribution to Kenyan journalism.
