Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Deputy President McDonald Mariga has defended his commitment to Kenyan football, saying he uses his personal money to support the national team because he does not receive a salary from the federation.
Speaking to the media, Mariga said members of the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC) are not paid, explaining that any money he spends travelling to support the team comes from his own pocket.
“I don’t get a salary from the federation. NEC members are not paid, so if I pay to go support the team, it is my own money, and that is the passion I have,” Mariga said.
The former Harambee Stars midfielder’s remarks highlight his stated commitment to supporting the national team, even when doing so requires personal financial expenditure.
Mariga, who serves as FKF Deputy President, has remained involved in football administration following his playing career, during which he represented Kenya at international level and played for several clubs abroad.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions about football administration and the commitment required from officials tasked with supporting the growth of the game in Kenya.
