National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has claimed that President William Ruto enjoys greater support among Generation Z than among older Kenyans, citing opinion polls he says are conducted every two weeks.

Speaking during a media interview on Sunday, October 25, Mbadi challenged claims that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s growing popularity among young people reflects stronger electoral support for the opposition.

“We do our opinion polls every two weeks. William Ruto has more support among the Gen Zs than even the elderly,” Mbadi said.

The Cabinet Secretary argued that social media activity and the crowds attending political rallies do not necessarily translate into votes during an election.

He cited former presidential candidate Charity Ngilu’s 1997 campaign, saying that despite attracting large crowds at Uhuru Park, she finished fifth in the presidential race.

Mbadi also predicted that Sifuna would lose if he contested the presidency in the 2027 General Election, while questioning whether the senator had the political experience needed to lead the country.

His remarks come amid growing political attention around Sifuna and his engagement with young Kenyans, as political leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.

Mbadi did not provide detailed results, sample sizes or methodology for the internal polls he cited to support his claim about Ruto’s backing among Gen Z.
