Member of Parliament Jared Okello has defended Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s political move from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying his extensive political experience places him in an advantageous position in Nairobi politics.

Okello argued that Sakaja’s political journey, spanning several leadership positions in the country’s political landscape, gives him a deeper understanding of Nairobi’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He noted that Sakaja’s experience dates back to his time as chairman of The National Alliance (TNA), before serving in Parliament and later the Senate, eventually becoming Nairobi Governor.

“Sakaja’s political experience, from his time as the chair of TNA to his stints in Parliament and the Senate, and now as Governor, puts him in an advantageous position in Nairobi,” Okello stated.

The MP further suggested that Sakaja’s decision to leave UDA for ODM was not an impulsive move but one informed by careful political assessment and strategic calculations.

“His move from UDA to ODM is informed by a lot of analysis,” Okello added.

Sakaja’s political realignment comes amid growing political repositioning ahead of the 2027 polls, with Nairobi emerging as a key battleground as different political formations seek to consolidate their support.
