A clerical officer attached to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) headquarters has been arrested over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate the processing of a driving licence.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) identified the officer as Joseph Njoroge Kihuna, who was arrested on Wednesday following a complaint by a matatu driver.
According to the commission, the complainant alleged that Kihuna demanded Sh18,000 to facilitate the issuance of the driving licence.
The officer was arrested within the NTSA headquarters while allegedly receiving Sh8,000, which investigators said was part of the demanded amount.
He was taken to the EACC’s Integrity Centre in Nairobi for processing before being released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 pending the conclusion of investigations.
The commission said the arrest formed part of its efforts to address alleged bribery in public service delivery and promote accountability in government institutions.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the officer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
