A total of 207,451 youths have registered to vote in the upcoming National Youth Council elections, according to figures released after the registration deadline.
The council said Nairobi leads the country with 16,741 registered voters, followed by other counties, while Taita Taveta recorded the lowest number at 734.
The exercise also attracted 5,797 candidates seeking election to an estimated 8,700 ward delegate positions.
Of those candidates, 1,736 have secured 50 or more nominations, while 88 wards have no candidates.
The National Youth Council said document verification for candidates will now begin, after which a list of duly nominated candidates will be published in accordance with the election regulations.
Only duly registered voters will be eligible to participate in the ward, constituency and National Youth Congress elections.
The council has also warned that no additional voter registrations will be accepted after the September 30 deadline.
