Kakamega Senator Robert Alai has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is planning a major public appearance on October 20, 2026, in what could be an attempt to attract greater media attention than this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations.

In a statement attributed to him, Alai said he had been informed that Gachagua was preparing for a high-profile arrival on the day, which is marked nationally to celebrate Kenya’s heroes and heroines.

“I am told that Gachagua is planning a major arrival on 20th October, hoping to get media traction better than that of Mashujaa Day,” Alai stated.

The claim comes ahead of Mashujaa Day, which is traditionally marked on October 20, with national celebrations drawing attention from political leaders, government officials and the public.

If the reported plans materialise, Gachagua’s anticipated appearance could generate political debate and renewed attention around his activities and political influence.

However, Alai’s statement does not provide details about the planned arrival, including the venue, the nature of the event or the people expected to attend.

Gachagua, who served as Kenya’s Deputy President before his impeachment in October 2024, has remained a prominent figure in the country’s political landscape.

The former Deputy President has continued to make political statements and engage in activities that attract public attention amid shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
