President William Ruto has said 680,000 Kenyans have secured employment abroad through government-supported overseas job placement efforts.
Addressing the nation during Mashujaa Day celebrations, Ruto said the initiative was part of efforts to expand employment opportunities for young people and other job seekers beyond Kenya’s borders.
He also said digital work programmes had opened income-generating opportunities for 350,000 young Kenyans, while the NYOTA programme had provided training to more than 700,000 young people.
According to the President, more than 120,000 young entrepreneurs had received capital and mentorship to establish businesses, create jobs and build sustainable livelihoods.
Ruto said the government intended to expand these initiatives, with a target of one million international employment opportunities over the next three years.
The President also set a target of two million digital work opportunities within the same period.
The announcements form part of the government’s wider strategy to address unemployment by connecting Kenyans to international labour markets, digital platforms and entrepreneurship opportunities.
