Harambee Stars aim to bounce back at FIFA Series in Rwanda

Kenya’s Harambee Stars were held to a goalless draw by Rwanda in an international friendly played at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Monday evening.

The two East African rivals battled to a 0-0 stalemate in a closely contested encounter that saw neither side find the breakthrough despite efforts to unlock the opposition defence.

The result gives head coach Benni McCarthy another opportunity to assess his squad, particularly the younger players, as he continues to build a team ahead of future competitive assignments.

Kenya entered the friendly seeking a positive response after drawing 1-1 with Eritrea and losing 1-0 to Guinea in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

McCarthy had indicated that the Kigali fixture would provide an opportunity to give several players valuable international minutes and assess his squad depth.

Rwanda, meanwhile, went into the match in strong form after recording victories over Liberia and Cape Verde in their recent AFCON qualifying campaign.

Despite the goalless outcome, both sides will take useful lessons from the friendly as they continue preparations for their upcoming international assignments.

For Harambee Stars, the focus now shifts to building greater attacking efficiency while maintaining the defensive solidity displayed in Kigali.
