A suspected stock thief was killed by a mob in Mwa village, Kisii County, following the alleged theft of a cow.

The incident occurred at around 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, after a cow belonging to Evans Ntabo was reported missing.

According to an incident report, the owner discovered the cow missing at around 2:05 a.m. and raised an alarm, prompting members of the community to begin searching for the animal.

During the search, an unidentified individual was reportedly found in possession of a Probox vehicle suspected to have been involved in the theft.

The missing cow was described as black and had a young, milking calf.

The assistant chief alerted the area chief, who subsequently informed the police. However, the report indicates that the police response was delayed.

Efforts by the assistant chief to rescue the suspect were unsuccessful, as the mob later killed the individual.

The Probox, was also set ablaze by unknown individuals.

The assistant chief later proceeded to Kerina Police Station and returned to the scene with police officers. Police efforts to trace the stolen cow were ongoing at the time of reporting.
