The Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) has suspended the collection of the tea levy on tea exports and imports following an interim order issued by the High Court.

In a notice dated October 27, 2026, the board said the court had issued a conservatory order restraining it from collecting or enforcing the levy under the Tea (Levy) Regulations, 2026, pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The directive, issued under Legal Notice No. 56 of 2026, takes immediate effect, with the board also requesting the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to suspend collection of the levy.

The suspension affects the levy only. Tea buyers, exporters and importers must continue complying with other applicable requirements, including licensing, registration, permits, quality standards and customs procedures.

The interim order remains in force pending further court proceedings on the dispute.
