Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced that his tenure as the country’s military chief is approaching its end, revealing plans to hand over the office to another officer in the coming months.
In a statement, Muhoozi said he believed he had completed the responsibilities entrusted to him by God and was preparing to leave the military leadership position.
“My time as CDF is coming to an end. I have accomplished all the tasks my God gave me,” he stated.
The Ugandan military chief further disclosed that he intends to hand over the office to a qualified successor before embarking on a new chapter of his life centred on Christianity.
“In a few months, I will handover this office to a qualified officer. I shall dedicate my life to Christ after that,” he added.
His remarks signal a possible leadership transition within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), although he did not disclose the exact date of his anticipated departure or identify a potential successor.
Muhoozi, the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, has served as the country’s Chief of Defence Forces since March 2024, when he succeeded General Wilson Mbadi.
