Villarreal produced an impressive comeback to defeat Napoli 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, October 13, 2026, earning their first points in the competition this season.

The Spanish side recovered from an early setback at the Estadio de la Cerámica to secure a memorable victory, with Georges Mikautadze, Santiago Mouriño and Tani Oluwaseyi finding the net.

Napoli took the lead in the eighth minute through defender Amir Rrahmani, who finished from close range following a corner to put the visitors in front.

Villarreal responded with determination and levelled the contest in the 23rd minute when Mikautadze converted from the left side of the box.

Just three minutes later, Mouriño completed the turnaround with a superb low finish from outside the penalty area after being set up by Gerard Moreno, giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage.

Napoli attempted to fight their way back into the match, with Rasmus Højlund striking the crossbar as the Italian outfit searched for an equaliser.

However, Villarreal remained resilient defensively and capitalised on their opportunities in the closing stages.

Substitute Tani Oluwaseyi sealed the victory in the 86th minute, finishing off a move assisted by Ayoze Pérez to confirm Villarreal’s 3-1 triumph.

The result provides a significant boost for Villarreal’s Champions League campaign, while Napoli will be disappointed after surrendering an early lead and leaving Spain without a point.

Villarreal will now turn their attention to their next European assignment as they seek to build momentum, while Napoli must regroup ahead of their upcoming league-phase fixture against Bodø/Glimt on October 20.
