Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a minor who later died while receiving medical attention.

The suspect, identified as Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, is the child’s stepfather and had reportedly gone into hiding following the incident, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged assault occurred between March 2 and 3, 2026.

The child was initially taken to Bikeke Health Centre for treatment before being referred to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where the minor was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the suspect allegedly fled, prompting investigators to pursue leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Detectives eventually arrested Namukana in the Shimo la Tewa area of Milimani, within Kiminini Sub-County.

He was escorted to the DCI offices in Kiminini, where investigators are processing him ahead of his expected arraignment at Kitale Law Courts.

The DCI said investigations into the case are ongoing as it reiterated its commitment to protecting children from abuse and ensuring that suspected offences are investigated in accordance with the law.

The suspect remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty by a court of law.
