A multi-agency security operation in Tana River County has led to the arrest of 17 suspects believed to be members of a criminal gang operating in Madogo and Mororo towns.
The operation targeted a group identified by police as the “Kayole Gang”, which is accused of terrorising residents in the two areas.
According to the National Police Service, the crackdown also uncovered a suspected drug-peddling den, where officers recovered suspected narcotic substances and an assortment of crude weapons.
The 17 suspects were placed in police custody pending arraignment in court, while the recovered substances and weapons were secured at the police station as exhibits.
The National Police Service said it would continue conducting intelligence-led, targeted operations across the country to tackle criminal activity.
The service also commended the cooperation between security agencies and members of the public in supporting the operation.
