Manchester United have reportedly begun identifying potential replacements for head coach Michael Carrick following the club’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Italian side Como.

Former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and former Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann are among the high-profile names understood to be on United’s radar as uncertainty grows over Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.

Despite the mounting pressure, Carrick has maintained that he is not concerned about his position at the club. However, a report by the BBC suggests that this weekend’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth could be his final match in charge of the Red Devils.

Carrick’s position has reportedly come under increased scrutiny following a disappointing start to the campaign, with Manchester United managing just seven points from the possible total in the Premier League.

Their European campaign has also struggled to gain momentum, with the team collecting only three points from their opening three Champions League matches.

The poor run of results has intensified questions over Carrick’s ability to turn around the club’s fortunes, with United’s hierarchy reportedly considering alternative options should they decide to make a change in the dugout.

Howe, Conte and Nagelsmann each offer different managerial profiles, with experience in top-level European football potentially making them attractive candidates for the Old Trafford job.

With the Bournemouth fixture looming, attention will be firmly fixed on Carrick and whether he can deliver a response capable of easing the growing pressure.

For Manchester United, the coming days could prove decisive as the club weighs its options amid renewed uncertainty over the direction of its season.
