Kenya has relaunched the Women Mediation Network as part of efforts to strengthen conflict prevention and promote peaceful communities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The initiative seeks to place women’s leadership, early dialogue and community trust at the centre of efforts to prevent disputes from escalating into violence.
The relaunch comes as the country prepares for the next general election, a period when political competition and community tensions can pose challenges to peace and stability.
Women mediators can play a role in identifying emerging tensions, facilitating dialogue between conflicting groups and building trust within communities before disputes escalate.
The network is expected to provide a platform for women to contribute to mediation and peacebuilding efforts, including at the grassroots level.
Early intervention and inclusive participation are widely recognised as important elements of conflict prevention, particularly during politically sensitive periods.
As Kenya approaches the 2027 elections, strengthening community-led peace initiatives could help support dialogue, reduce tensions and encourage peaceful participation in the electoral process.
