Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared his willingness to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for the presidency should he fail to secure the United Opposition’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua said he would be ready to serve as Sifuna’s campaign director if the opposition settles on another candidate to challenge President William Ruto.
“If I’m not favoured to be the opposition’s presidential candidate, I, Riggy G, will become Sifuna’s campaign director,” Gachagua declared.
The remarks signal Gachagua’s willingness to work with other opposition leaders in pursuit of a common political objective, even as competition for the opposition’s presidential flag bearer position continues.
Sifuna, who has emerged as a prominent voice within the opposition, has been actively involved in political mobilisation and efforts to strengthen the opposition’s structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua’s declaration also comes amid ongoing discussions among opposition leaders on the need to unite behind a single presidential candidate to mount a formidable challenge against President Ruto.
