More than 2.5 million learners have taken part in the 2026 national assessments, with the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) scheduled to conclude today, October 30.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) concluded on October 28, while the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) and Kenya Pre-vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA) ended on October 29.

In a statement, Ogamba said the assessment period had experienced minor operational challenges, including adverse weather, administrative glitches and medical needs among candidates.

However, coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Education, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), security agencies and other stakeholders ensured that all learners who presented themselves for the assessments were able to sit their papers.

The conclusion of the KJSEA marks a key milestone for Grade 9 learners preparing to transition to Senior School in January 2027 under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.

Ogamba assured parents and learners that the placement process would be equitable and transparent, taking into account learners’ performance, interests and selected pathways.

Attention now shifts to the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, which have 1,048,355 registered candidates.

The written examinations are scheduled to run from Monday, November 2, to Friday, November 20, 2026.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasised the need for strict adherence to examination procedures, operational preparedness and secure transportation of examination materials.

He also called for special attention to candidates with disabilities, medical needs and those affected by adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry of Education commended KNEC, teachers, security agencies, parents and other stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the national assessment period.
