Heavy rains along Kenya’s Coast have triggered flooding in Tana River County, displacing 302 households and affecting more than 3,000 others, according to the Kenya Red Cross.
The flooding has been reported in Tana Delta, where the Tulu and Minjila dams have overflowed, sending water into nearby villages and homes.
A further 3,156 households have been affected by the floods, while neighbouring Lamu County is also experiencing rising water levels, with homes in Hindi and Witu beginning to flood.
The Kenya Red Cross said 175 of the displaced households in Tana River had so far received food, tarpaulins and blankets through support from the county and national governments.
The remaining affected families are expected to receive assistance as response efforts continue.
The organisation said its teams were on the ground working with partners to assess needs and support families affected by the flooding as the rains persist.
