Police in Kisumu County have arrested one suspect and recovered 282.55 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis sativa following an intelligence-led operation.

The operation, conducted on Thursday, October 30, led to the interception of a vehicle allegedly transporting the illegal substance packed in sacks.

According to police, the vehicle’s driver defied orders to stop and attempted to flee, prompting officers to deflate one of its tyres to bring it to a halt.

However, amid the ensuing commotion, the driver managed to escape, while the passenger was arrested.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 282.55 kilogrammes of the suspected cannabis, with the intended destination of the consignment yet to be established.

The arrested suspect and the recovered exhibits were taken into police custody as officers intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the escaped driver.
