Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant James Gakuya has suggested that the political alliance between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) could collapse if President William Ruto loses the 2027 General Election.

Gakuya noted that the current arrangement between the two political parties is only an alliance for now, warning that the outcome of the next election could trigger fresh political realignments.

Speaking on the possible future of the arrangement, Gakuya said President Ruto’s victory could be a key factor in keeping ODM within the current political formation.

“ODM is only in an alliance with UDA for now. After the election, things could change,” Gakuya stated.

He further suggested that a defeat for Ruto could open the door for a possible political partnership between ODM and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

“If President Ruto loses, that alliance may collapse, paving the way for a possible ODM-DCP alliance,” he said.

The Embakasi North legislator added that the political landscape in Parliament could witness significant changes depending on the election outcome, with new alliances potentially emerging after the polls.

His remarks point to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the ODM-UDA political arrangement as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
