A Kitui Member of County Assembly has been charged with stealing 42 mobile phones valued at Ksh609,000 from a shop along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi.

Ikanga/Kyatune Ward MCA Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court, where he denied the charge.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged theft occurred on August 5, 2026, when 42 Itel City 200 smartphones, each valued at Ksh14,500, were reportedly taken from a shop owned by Dahir Adan Mohamud.

Musyoka was arrested on October 22, 2026, before being presented in court.

Investigators have also linked him to two other alleged mobile phone theft incidents in Nairobi reported in August and September. The consignments involved in the separate cases were valued at Ksh1.8 million and Ksh420,000.

According to the prosecution, the three incidents involved mobile phones worth a combined Ksh4,906,050.

The prosecution opposed his release on bail, citing concerns that he could fail to attend court proceedings. It reportedly pointed to his alleged previous failure to appear in court as grounds for the objection.

In a separate application, investigators sought 15 days to detain Musyoka as they complete investigations. The proposed inquiries include recording witness statements, conducting forensic analysis of CCTV footage and pursuing other suspected accomplices.

Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo ordered that the accused be held at Kamukunji Police Station pending a further hearing on November 5, 2026.

The court is expected to consider the prosecution’s objection to bail and the application for additional time to complete investigations.
