Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has announced the release of Owuor Williams, alias Jahome Ochola, after spending seven days in custody following his arrest on October 29, 2026.

In a statement shared on his X account, Owino said he appeared at the Kahawa Law Courts on Thursday to represent Williams, who had been charged under circumstances he described as malicious.

According to the legislator, the miscellaneous application against Williams was subsequently withdrawn after the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to sustain the charges, paving the way for his release.

Owino described the development as a victory for Kenyans, while raising concerns over the detention of individuals without sufficient legal grounds.

He called on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to respect due process and refrain from pursuing cases that lack sufficient legal justification.

The MP further revealed that his legal team had demanded an apology to Williams over what he termed a violation of his client’s rights and the seven days he spent in custody.”A win for Kenyans,” Owino declared, insisting that the rights of citizens must be protected and that law enforcement agencies must operate within the confines of the law.

The legislator’s remarks come amid renewed calls for accountability and respect for constitutional rights in the administration of justice.
