Jubilee Party presidential candidate Dr. Fred Matiang’i has called for an end to tribal politics, urging opposition leaders to unite behind a common agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during political rallies in Limuru and Wangige in Kiambu County, Matiang’i warned that divisions based on ethnicity threatened national unity and could undermine Kenya’s progress.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary challenged Kenyans to reject tribal divisions, insisting that the country’s future depended on unity regardless of ethnic or political affiliations.

“Kenya was built on unity, and we must remain united,” Matiang’i said, urging citizens to look beyond their ethnic backgrounds and work towards a common national agenda.

He also called for cohesion within the United Opposition, expressing confidence that opposition leaders would put aside their differences and rally behind a common political cause to challenge President William Ruto’s administration in the 2027 elections.

Matiang’i’s remarks come amid growing political realignments and efforts by opposition leaders to consolidate their support ahead of the next General Election.

During the rallies, the Jubilee leader also questioned the effectiveness of the Social Health Authority (SHA), raising concerns over why Kenyan families continue to organise public fundraisers to cater for medical bills despite the government’s promise of expanded healthcare coverage.

He challenged the government to explain the continued financial burden facing households seeking medical treatment, questioning whether the new health insurance framework was delivering the relief promised to Kenyans.

Matiang’i was accompanied by Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta, Kiharu MP and PPK Party Leader Ndindi Nyoro, People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua, Kenya Moja Movement Party Leader Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, among other opposition leaders.

The leaders used the rallies to engage residents on national political issues, with calls for opposition unity, accountability and an end to ethnic-based politics taking centre stage.
