Retail chain Carrefour has closed its Comet House outlet in Nairobi’s Central Business District, four years after opening the store.

The closure took effect on October 31, 2026, according to a report by Business Daily published on November 3.

Majid Al Futtaim, which operates the Carrefour franchise in Kenya, said the decision followed a routine review of its operations.

The outlet, located along Monrovia Street, opened on November 9, 2022, marking Carrefour’s return to the CBD after focusing on shopping malls in Nairobi’s suburbs.

At the time, it was the retailer’s 19th store in Kenya and stocked more than 9,000 product lines, including groceries, fresh produce, household goods and personal-care products.

The company has not publicly specified the reasons behind the closure.

The move comes amid continued competition in Kenya’s supermarket sector, where major retailers have expanded their networks to attract customers and strengthen their market positions.
