Child trafficking suspect Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi Mwandeme, is expected to appear in court today as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) clarifies concerns surrounding his arrest.
The DCI has dismissed claims that Mwangi was arrested twice in connection with the same case, explaining that its October 8 update was intended to highlight further investigative activities rather than announce a fresh arrest.
The clarification follows public concerns after the update appeared to suggest that the suspect had been apprehended again following an earlier release.
According to the DCI, detectives subsequently conducted a search at a house associated with the suspect, where they recovered various items, including children’s clothing and other baby essentials, as investigations into the alleged child trafficking case continued.
Mwangi was initially arrested after detectives raided a room at Korompoi Trading Centre in Isinya, Kajiado County.
During the operation, officers reportedly found him in the company of four children aged 17, 16, five and one year and four months.
The circumstances surrounding the children’s presence at the premises are expected to form part of the ongoing investigations as authorities pursue the case.
The suspect’s expected arraignment marks another step in the investigation, with the DCI seeking to clarify the sequence of events surrounding his arrest and the subsequent recovery of items linked to the probe.
