Kenyan comedian Nasra Yusuf has announced her intention to contest the Garissa County Women Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.
Yusuf made the announcement in an Instagram post on Tuesday, October 20, outlining her plans to pursue elective politics in the northeastern county.
Her campaign poster carries the slogan “Her Voice. Her Future. Our Garissa” and highlights proposed priorities that include women’s empowerment, education and skills training, healthcare and employment opportunities.
In her accompanying message, Yusuf said she wanted leadership that listens to residents and delivers opportunities across the county.
“Garissa deserves leadership that listens, representation that delivers, and opportunities that reach every woman and girl,” she wrote.
Her announcement places her among Kenyan entertainers who have expressed interest in seeking political office ahead of the 2027 polls.
Yusuf has built a public profile through comedy and entertainment, and her entry into the race marks a move from the entertainment industry into elective politics.
The Women Representative position is one of the county-based seats contested during Kenya’s general elections. The office is intended to represent women’s interests in the National Assembly and support legislation and initiatives affecting women and other constituents.
Yusuf is expected to compete against other aspirants seeking the Garissa seat, although the final field of candidates will become clearer as the election approaches.
Further details about her political party affiliation and campaign activities were not included in her announcement.
