A Dandora man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to five counts linked to the wrongful retention and use of Sh250,000 mistakenly transferred to his bank account.
Amos Ochieng was arrested on October 23, 2026, following investigations into the erroneous transfer made on September 4, 2026, when the complainant accidentally sent the money to his bank account.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from Wilson Airport launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the transaction and trace the funds.
The investigators subsequently obtained a court order in JKIA Miscellaneous Criminal Application No. E184 of 2026, authorising a probe into the recipient’s bank account.
The investigations established that Ochieng had withdrawn Sh150,000 in three instalments before the bank blocked the remaining balance.
Detectives later tracked him down and arrested him at his hideout near Total Petrol Station in Dandora.
On October 26, Ochieng was arraigned before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court at JKIA, where he faced five counts, including intentional withholding of an electronic payment delivered erroneously.
He pleaded guilty to all five counts and was convicted accordingly. He remains in custody pending sentencing scheduled for November 17, 2026.
The DCI has reminded members of the public that Section 35 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018, criminalises the intentional withholding of an electronic payment received in error.
The agency urged anyone who receives money mistakenly deposited into their account to notify their bank immediately and follow the official reversal process.
“An erroneous credit is not a licence to spend,” the DCI warned.
