The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged Jones Onchongo afresh with forgery and uttering a false document over an alleged fake priesthood ordination certificate at the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar.

Onchongo was charged with forgery contrary to Section 351 of the Penal Code and uttering a false document after allegedly presenting a fake certificate of ordination purportedly issued by the Diocese of Morogoro in Tanzania.

The prosecution told the court that on August 12, 2026, within the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar, Onchongo allegedly forged an ordination certificate bearing the names of Fr Joseph and Fr Ebenyo Muhame.

He was also accused of knowingly and fraudulently presenting the certificate as a genuine document issued by the Diocese of Morogoro, despite it allegedly being fake.

The latest charges follow an earlier case in which Onchongo was charged with personation contrary to Section 382 of the Penal Code.

In that case, the prosecution alleged that between July 31 and August 12, 2026, at the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar in Turkana Central, he used false representations to convince Bishop John Mbinda and other diocesan leaders that he was an ordained priest.

He allegedly gained permission to conduct church meetings within the diocese by presenting himself as an ordained father, despite allegedly knowing that the claim was false.

Onchongo denied the charges before Hon. Evanson Nginji and was released on a cash bail of KSh100,000.

The allegations are yet to be proven in court.
