Kenya will host the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally in 2027, President William Ruto has announced.
In a statement, Ruto said the iconic rally would return to Kenya, with drivers expected to compete across the terrain around Naivasha.
“The Safari Rally stays home,” the President said, thanking the Ministry of Sports, the WRC Safari Rally Project, private-sector partners, the FIA and WRC Promoter for supporting the event.
Ruto said hosting the rally would provide economic opportunities for the country by supporting hotels and businesses while showcasing Kenya to an international audience.
He also described the Safari Rally as an event with deep roots in Kenya, noting that the competition was established in the country.
The President said the government would continue working with stakeholders to ensure the rally remains part of Kenya’s international sporting calendar.
Kenya has been a regular host of the WRC Safari Rally in recent years, with the event attracting some of the world’s leading rally drivers and teams.
The 2027 hosting announcement comes as Kenya continues to position the Safari Rally as a major sporting and tourism event, alongside efforts to develop motorsport locally.
