The Linda Mwananchi movement has named Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The announcement followed a leadership meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during which the movement said it had agreed to move forward as a united outfit.
In a statement, Linda Mwananchi said Sifuna would lead the movement as it seeks to offer what it described as an alternative to the current administration.
The movement said Sifuna will also spearhead the unveiling of the political party through which he intends to contest the presidency, with the event expected in early October.
“Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate,” the statement said.
Linda Mwananchi further announced plans to engage like-minded political parties with a view to forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement comes amid uncertainty over the political vehicle Sifuna will use after plans surrounding the Ukombozi name encountered challenges. Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya had previously said Sifuna would use the United Democratic Party (UDP), with his unveiling expected in early October.
The choice of Sifuna as the movement’s presidential candidate follows earlier calls within Linda Mwananchi for the opposition outfit to settle on a single candidate for the 2027 contest.
The movement said its leadership remains united and focused on the political work ahead.
