A multi-agency security team has recovered 445 goats and sheep stolen from Kaloriwo Village in Turkana County following an operation targeting suspected livestock thieves.
According to a security update, officers pursued the suspects, who reportedly engaged them in an exchange of gunfire before fleeing and abandoning some of the animals.
The team initially recovered 365 sheep and goats, while the suspects escaped with the remaining livestock.
As one team escorted the recovered animals to safety, a backup team continued the pursuit, leading to the recovery of an additional 80 sheep and goats and bringing the total to 445.
The first batch of livestock has since been handed back to its owners, while the additional 80 animals are awaiting identification by their rightful owners before being released.
Security officers remain in the area pursuing the remaining stolen livestock and tracking down the suspects.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle livestock theft and improve security in the region.
