A resident of Kipchumwa Location in Marakwet East Sub-County has voluntarily surrendered an illegal firearm to police as multi-agency security operations continue in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the firearm was handed over to officers at Embobut Police Station on Saturday, October 24, alongside a magazine and two rounds of ammunition.
The service said the firearm and ammunition had been placed in safe custody.
The NPS commended the resident for surrendering the weapon and urged other people still holding illegal firearms to follow suit and comply with the government’s directive.
The surrender comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to address banditry and restore peace in the region.
Banditry has contributed to loss of lives, suffering and disruption of livelihoods in affected areas, prompting continued security operations and community engagement.
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the menace and called on residents to support efforts to improve security.
