Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has urged traditional leaders in the country to avoid partisan politics and instead focus on promoting national unity and preserving cultural heritage.
Museveni made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing kings and other cultural leaders during a conference at State House in Entebbe.
The Ugandan leader called on cultural institutions to play a unifying role in society, stressing the importance of preserving the country’s traditions and fostering cohesion among communities.
His remarks come amid growing political debate and speculation over the country’s succession, with his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, increasingly mentioned as a possible successor.
Kainerugaba currently serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, while Museveni has remained in power since 1986.
