Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has unveiled the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) Standing Committee, tasking its members with overseeing Kenya’s preparations for the continental football tournament.
Mvurya said the committee had been constituted to coordinate and supervise preparations aimed at delivering a world-class tournament when Kenya co-hosts the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
The CS expressed confidence in the team, citing the members’ professional expertise, leadership experience and proven track records as key assets in ensuring the successful organisation of the championship.
“Carefully selected for their wealth of experience, professional expertise and proven leadership, the committee brings together distinguished individuals whose collective capabilities will be instrumental in delivering a championship befitting Kenya’s ambitions as a leading sporting destination,” Mvurya said.
He reaffirmed the committee’s mandate, urging members to recognise the national significance of their assignment and the expectations surrounding Kenya’s preparations for the high-profile tournament.
Mvurya noted that the committee carries the hopes and aspirations of more than 55 million Kenyans, stressing the need to deliver a competition that will inspire national pride while meeting international standards.
“I reaffirmed their mandate and reminded them that they carry the hopes and aspirations of over 55 million Kenyans to deliver a tournament that brings pride and joy to the country,” he said.
Beyond football, the CS said the tournament presents Kenya with an opportunity to strengthen sports development, promote tourism, attract investment and expand economic opportunities.
The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania under the PAMOJA initiative, marking a significant milestone for East African football and presenting the region with an opportunity to showcase its organisational capacity, sporting infrastructure and tourism potential.
The unveiling of the standing committee comes as Kenya continues preparations to ensure the country is ready to host Africa’s premier national-team football competition.
