Former US President Barack Obama has said the outcome of the midterm elections sends a clear message that Americans want political leaders who promote unity and offer practical solutions to the challenges facing the country.
In a statement shared on X, Obama said the results were made possible by candidates who stepped forward to contest in different parts of the country, including areas previously considered difficult to win.
He praised the candidates for representing diverse backgrounds and political perspectives while sharing a commitment to public service and prioritising the interests of their constituents.
Obama also recognised the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both political parties who helped oversee the voting process.
He noted that the current administration still had two years in office, urging Democrats to focus on making changes where possible, preventing further damage and preparing for the future.
