The Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Human Rights Violations has verified 259 claims worth Sh83.65 million under Phase VI of the compensation programme.

The programme covers both civilian victims and uniformed officers who suffered human rights violations, including those arising from demonstrations and public protests.

According to the Panel, the verified claims comprise different categories of harm, with 35 severe injury claims valued at Sh35 million, while 54 moderate injury claims amount to Sh27 million.

A further 133 claims involving minor injuries have been allocated Sh6.65 million, while 30 claims relating to economic loss are valued at Sh1.5 million.

The Panel also approved compensation for aggravated injuries, with four claims valued at Sh2 million each, two claims at Sh1.5 million each and one claim at Sh2.5 million.

The Panel said it continues to receive submissions from victims through official channels, urging those who have not yet come forward to submit their claims for consideration.

«“We remain committed to ensuring no eligible individual is left behind,” the Panel said.»

It added that every claim undergoes careful verification and authentication before a decision is made, with claimants to be notified of the outcome in due course.

The Panel, chaired by Prof. Makau Mutua, said it will continue engaging victims and beneficiaries to address their concerns, clarify the status of claims and ensure eligible victims are treated fairly and with dignity.
