Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the club’s Champions League match against Barcelona.

PSG confirmed the injury in a medical update on Wednesday, October 21, following their 4-2 victory over the Spanish side at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

The Georgian international sustained the injury during the match and was forced off just before the hour mark after struggling to put weight on his right leg.

The club did not specify how long the 25-year-old is expected to be sidelined.

Kvaratskhelia was not the only PSG player to suffer an injury during the encounter. Forward Ousmane Dembélé sustained an injury to his left thigh, while captain Marquinhos injured his right thigh.

PSG said both players would remain under medical treatment over the coming weeks.

The injuries come as the French champions continue their Champions League campaign, having beaten Barcelona to record their third consecutive victory in the competition.
